How has 9/11 changed the jobs of local police?

I mention this week the Era of Terrorism. Some police researchers and practitioners believe that after 9/11, we entered a new era of policing that focused on responding to the threat of terrorism.  Do you agree? Why or why not? Do police have new responsibilities or are their duties largely unchanged?  How has 9/11 changed the jobs of local police?
