According to the literature, policing in the 1800s into the early 20th century was the political era, policing from 1930s to the 1980s was an era of reform, and policing in the late 20th century was community-oriented. A large emphasis of the literature is that we still remain in the Community Policing era today. Is this true? What evidence supports this?  Others have argued that we have moved beyond the Community Policing era and are, rather, in an era of Homeland Security.  Is this true?  What evidence supports this?
