Parole is an important function in our correctional system. As you know by now, folks can leave prison via a parole board (in indeterminate sentencing states), or via good time credits (in determinate sentencing states), or they can max out of prison (serve 100% of their time) without any supervision once released. Regardless of how they leave, those released early to a term of supervision must abide by certain terms and conditions of parole (or release) and are held accountable by a parole officer. Watch the video below, and address the following:

1. What is your impression of the parole supervision model in Indianapolis, as portrayed in this video?

2. What do you think are the three most important conditions for parolees? What services do you think parolees need to improve their chances of success on the outside? 

3. What services to you think the parole officers need to better supervise their parolees?

4. Would you ever consider the job of parole officer? Why or why not?
