How could our own soldiers, tasked with overseeing prisoners, commit such ethical violations?

In 2004, the news that U.S. soldiers had tortured prisoners in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison shocked our nation. The U.S. has always been a strong proponent of the Geneva Convention and has stood firm in its position that torture is not an acceptable means of interrogating prisoners.

Citizens asked: How could our own soldiers, tasked with overseeing prisoners, commit such ethical violations?

Do some research on the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. Draft a one to two page summary explaining what occurred and raising at least two ethical questions or dilemmas presented to the soldiers assigned to Abu Ghraib prison (either those who were involved in the torture or those who were not).
