California, particularly the Central Valley, is very ethnically and culturally diverse.  As a result, there have been continual conflicts with law enforcement, resulting in endless lawsuits based on racism, racial profiling, and/or brutality/excessive use of force in California.  

Find a recent case (or doesn’t have to be a case) (less than 5 years old) where member(s) of a cultural/ethnic community alleged the above against the criminal justice system (officers, agencies).  Critically analyze the circumstances and the outcome to determine if:

·       Race, ethnicity, gender and/or culture had any role in the event

·       Individual or group identity, language, ethnicity, religion or gender played a role in the outcome – in other words, was the victim/individual/group discriminated against or faced disparate treatment

·       Officers were more culturally aware or competent regarding the cultural beliefs, traditions, rituals, etc., of the individual or group, the situation may not have happened
