Some customary practices in other parts of the world equate to illegal activity in the United States. This can cause serious issues for recent immigrants and those who are not fully culturally assimilated. "Honor killings" are an acceptable part of the legal process in some parts of the world, as are practices like "selling" young women into arranged marriages.
