Law enforcement is often one of the most criticized elements of the criminal justice system, likely because it is the most “visible” aspect of the criminal justice system, since citizens see the police in their communities, encounter officers during traffic stops, or because the police have responded to a call for service.

For this discussion, identify a recent event, either locally or nationally, involving a law enforcement policy or procedure, such as a use of force incident, mandatory arrest policies for offenders, investigations, or interrogations. Provide a brief overview of that event, then analyze whether the officer(s) acted ethically according to the ethical frameworks we examined in Week 1 (deontology, Kantian ethics, etc.). Indicate how the International Association of Chiefs of Police Code of Ethics governs this practice issue.
