CJ1470: Week 4 Collecting Hair, Fiber, and Trace Evidence Read the following scenario

CJ1470: Week 4 Collecting Hair, Fiber, and Trace Evidence Page 1 Read the following scenario: Scenario: Reese Montgomery is a 19-year-old freshman at Cotton Dale University. She has long, blonde hair and is wearing a soft pink shirt and blue jeans. She decides to attend a party that is sponsored by one of the fraternities on campus. She knows some of the guys from her chemistry class and decides to start up a conversation with three who are hanging out around the pool table. One of the guys, Chad, has long, black hair and is wearing a blue shirt and is outwardly very friendly. The second guy, Josh, has light blonde hair and is wearing a brown shirt. Austin, the third guy, has short brown hair and is wearing a red and black sweatshirt. Throughout the party, all three guys have brought Reese drinks. At around 11 p.m., she starts to feel woozy after consuming several drinks given to her by the three different fraternity brothers. She does not remember anything after 11:15 p.m. When she wakes up at 3:27 a.m., she finds herself naked and lying on a bed in a room that is not familiar. Fearing she may have been sexually assaulted, she goes to the hospital, where the hospital staff places her clothes in bags to preserve several hair and fibers found on her body and clothes and some chipped paint that was found on the bottom of her shoe. On investigation, it was found that the paint sample from her shoe matches the paint on the wall of the room in which she awoke. Keeping the following important tasks in mind, answer the questions that follow: Collection of hair, fiber, and trace evidence Identification and comparison of hair and fiber Preservation of hair and fiber Examination of paint and the process of collecting and preserving paint evidence Questions: What steps should the hospital take in the scenario? CJ1470: Week 4 Collecting Hair, Fiber, and Trace Evidence Page 2 What steps should the investigators take to ensure the preservation of evidence from the victim and crime scene?
