Data for Assignment2 Machines Making Part A,2 Machines

Step  one is to document the model objectives (3 lines) and scope (5 lines). If you wish to model your own business please have these ready. Otherwise we will spend 30 minutes on how to carry out these steps on Saturday 27th August 2016.

You will be required to build most of the model over the next month and carry out experimentation and documentation in the following month.

The project will be marked based on the 6 steps

  1. Formulate the Problem (20%)
  2. Collect Information/Data and Construct  Conceptual Model (5%)
  3. Is the Conceptual Model Valid (5%)
  4. Build the Model  / Is the Programmed Model Valid (50%)
  5. Design, Conduct and Analyse Experiments (10%)
  6. Document the Simulation Results (10%)

In step 4 Marks will be given to the top  5 of of the 6 below

  1. Basic Use (Structural Blocks-Does it run) (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  2. Decisions Logic (Discuss)   (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  3. Downtime (Discuss)   (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  4. Shifts (Discuss)  (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  5. Quality/Yield   (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  6. Setup   (5% BASIC/10% Advanced)
  7. Decide what type of units move from object to object in the simulation model: For example you might model Boxes at one point and parts at another.
  8. Compare  Clock parameters to shift parameters
  9. Routing in and Out of a machine has all the details needed for:
    1. Assembly of parts,
    2. Yields Changeovers.
    3. Use the help button and explore all the options.
  10. Labels are like stickers you can put on a simulated parts/boxs. You can use these to make decisions, if the label on the part has this value do X or Y
  11. The manufacturing  Example in Simul8 can help in the  use of using Labels.
  12. Visual Logic can be accessed on Routing Out. For those looking to get very high marks exploring this would be recommended.
  13. Calculate how busy a machine should be based on the number of units it process and the time to process one unit. Compare this with the "% Working".
  14. Efficiency is another name for Downtime
  15. Change over is another name for Setup.

Machine 1&2 produce Boxes of Part A. Each Box contains 720 units (this can be one or two Simul8  Activities)

Machine 3&4 produce Boxes of Part B. Each Box contains 200 units.  (this can be one or two Simul8  Activities)

There are storage locations between Machine 1-4 and Assembly Machine. These locations take up space the Factory is short on.

The assembly machine takes one unit A and one  unit B and produces one Assembled unit. This will require the boxes to be unloaded into storage before assembly
