Review all of the materials and instructor insights for week 6. Then -
Please choose ONE of the following questions (some questions have more than 1 part). Respond in a minimum of 250 words and cite your sources. Remember to respond to at least two other people before the week is over. When possible, respond to someone who chose a different question than you did.
Be sure to:
· Make a robust reply to demonstrate understanding of the topic (approx. 200 words or more)
· Cite the sources you use to help you answer the question
· Answer in your own words and identify any phrases copied from a source by placing them in quotation marks and citing (should only be a small portion of your reply - majority should be in your own words)
· Reply to at least one other person in the thread with a substantive comment that demonstrates your own knowledge of the topic and moves the discussion forward. Strive to go above and beyond and respond to even more!
· Try to post earlier in the week so that we can all have a good discussion throughout the week
Questions to Choose From
(note: the readings from the Federalist and Anti Federalist papers can be found in the instructor insights.)
1. Section 1 of this week’s webtext titled, “The Growth of the Market Economy” and then explain three (3) effects that the Market Revolution, reform, and democracy had on society. Next, imagine that you are a farmer or that you are living in an urban area, and provide two (2) reasons as to whether you would be for or against the Market Revolution, reform, and democracy. Justify your response. Note: Think about the societal problems, innovations, politics, and factory life during this time period.
2. BE creative: For your discussion this week create a short newspaper article about an event occurring during the War of 1812. Create the article as if you were a journalist in 1812 reporting on the events of the war as they happened. Include: a newspaper front page with name of newspaper, title of article, byline, date being written (remember it should reflect 1812), and an image. Feel free to include other “newspapery” type things like an ad from the time or classifieds etc. Be creative! Upload this to the discussion (you can use Word, but it works best to use powerpoint or another tool. If you know how you can paste the image of your headline and short article directly into the discussion!
3. BE creative option 2: Pretend you are a political cartoonist in 1812. Create a political cartoon that comments on one aspect of the War of 1812 (ie events leading up to it or events after). Save your cartoon as an image and paste it into the discussion. Below the cartoon, explain what you intended each part to mean and the overall message of the cartoon.
