HIS 104 Week 7 Discussion

Review all of the materials and instructor insights for week 7.  Then -

Please choose ONE of the following questions (some questions have more than 1 part).  Respond in a minimum of 200 words and cite your sources.  Remember to respond to at least two other people before the week is over.   When possible, respond to someone who chose a different question than you did.

Be sure to:

·         Make a robust reply to demonstrate understanding of the topic (approx. 200 words or more)

·         Cite the sources you use to help you answer the question

·         Answer in your own words and identify any phrases copied from a source by placing them in quotation marks and citing (should only be a small portion of your reply - majority should be in your own words)

·         Reply to at least one other person in the thread with a substantive comment that demonstrates your own knowledge of the topic and moves the discussion forward.  Strive to go above and beyond and respond to even more!

·         Try to post earlier in the week so that we can all have a good discussion throughout the week

Questions to Choose From

1.      Go to Section 3 of this week’s Webtext titled, “Lives of Slaves” and review the videos shown in the section. Next, briefly summarize the day-to-day activities of a typical slave’s daily life. Using resources from this section and the supplemental resource featured this week, determine three (3) differences in experiences between slaves then suggest two (2) reasons why the experiences may have differed. Should be approx. 200-250 words.

2.       BE creative: For your discussion this week, pretend you were part of the abolition movement during the 19th century.  Create an abolition flier supporting the ending of slavery. You can create a standalone flier, make it an advertisement for a meeting, make it a political campaign poster etc. Be creative! Upload this to the discussion (you can use Word, but it works best to use powerpoint or another tool.

3.      BE creative option 2: Pretend you are a political cartoonist in the 29th century. Create a political cartoon that comments on one aspect of slavery and/or abolition (ie events leading up to it or events after).  Save your cartoon as an image and paste it into the discussion.  Below the cartoon, explain what you intended each part to mean and the overall message of the cartoon.
