HIS 104 Week 8 Discussion

Review all of the materials and instructor insights for week 8.  Then -

Please choose ONE of the following questions (some questions have more than 1 part).  Respond in a minimum of 250 words and cite your sources.  Remember to respond to at least two other people before the week is over.   When possible, respond to someone who chose a different question than you did.

Be sure to:

·         Make a robust reply to demonstrate understanding of the topic (approx. 200 words or more)

·         Cite the sources you use to help you answer the question

·         Answer in your own words and identify any phrases copied from a source by placing them in quotation marks and citing (should only be a small portion of your reply - majority should be in your own words)

·         Reply to at least one other person in the thread with a substantive comment that demonstrates your own knowledge of the topic and moves the discussion forward.  Strive to go above and beyond and respond to even more!

·         Try to post earlier in the week so that we can all have a good discussion throughout the week

Questions to Choose From – answer all parts of your chosen question

(Some of these questions come from the information in the Instruction Insights)

1.      Before the American Revolution, England had prohibited colonists from migrating westward beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Explore this week’s Webtext materials; then, discuss 5 factors that led to further westward expansion. Which 2 of those factors do you believe were most significant in getting Americans to migrate west? Why?

2.      This week we studied the Indian Removal Act.  Was Jackson’s policy unjust? (explain why or why not)  What policy/course of action might have been better?

3.      List three of President Jackson’s most important and influential policies and/or contributions to U.S. history (either positive or negative).  Then, describe and explain the effects of these policies and why you chose them as most influential.
