Students will utilize elements from the Vision for Hope curriculum, provided by Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, to explore the integration of pediatric palliative care principles and ethical practice into the care of children and adolescents with chronic illness. The Vision for Hope curriculum is available at http://www.bioethicsinstitute.org/research/projects-2/hope (Links to an external site.).Â
Part 1 of this assignment is participation in a small group discussion utilizing Blackboard Collaborate.Â
Students will sign up for a discussion group time specific to one of the chronic illnesses covered by Vision for Hope (either sickle cell disease or Duchenne muscular dystrophy). Each discussion is scheduled for one hour and will be facilitated by the instructor. Students should come prepared having watched the videos for the specific chronic illness and reflected on how the information learned relates to ethical practice and their work as a child life specialist.Â
