Week 4 Assignment, Part 3: Multicultural Education/Advocacy (5 pts) (W4LO 2, CLO 1, CLO 4)

Educators are not only in the business of teaching what is known but they also reinforce and, in fact, present to students as fact what they value and what is valued in society. As such, it is important for educators to question and scrutinize all they have come to know because they will certainly pass it along to their students. It is easy to become discouraged – feeling that the problems of oppression, stratification, and inequity are too large for any individual to affect.

Directions: In a minimum of two to three well developed paragraphs, respond to the following guiding question, making connection between the question and the strategic concepts in the course readings, lectures, and videos, as well as your personal perceptions.

Guiding Question:

In addition to being content specialists, to what degree should teachers be advocates for all students and especially for those who are marginalized in society, such as, facilitating the development of culturally competent educators by institutionalizing cultural knowledge, promoting curriculum transformation, ensuring resource allocation to support learning, etc.?
