Strategic Problem-Solving Activity I - Memo #1, Documentation, and Reflection:
In response to the letter of concern by the hypothetical superintendent, you will assume the role as the new hypothetical principal at a campus in the district. The candidate will prepare a written memo with attached documents that addresses the following three prescribed actions (these three actions will be called the superintendent’s directives):
a) Share a new vision statement for the identified program that has been developed and aligned with the campus vision statement;
b) Describe in detail to the superintendent the specific steps taken to develop, articulate, implement and steward a new vision statement for the identified program;
c) Share who was involved, sample activities conducted, how progress toward establishing the programs vision will be tracked, and how the program’s vision is aligned to the campus vision statement.
Special note: While preparing the simulated memo and documentation, you should address the required superintendent directives described above and in the resource packet which is located in an attachment in this assignment. Additionally, (while responding to items a through c listed in the superintendent's directives) you should address the four elements discussed in the resource packet’s Stage 1 “BUILDING BLOCKS”. These four elements include how the candidate: a) modeled a collaborative approach; b) established expectations and built relationships; c) defined roles and shared responsibilities; d) aligned strategic priorities.
In the memo to the superintendent, you should write one paragraph on each of the four elements identified in the stage one building blocks located in the resource packet and described above. It should prove easy to address the superintendent’s directives (a through c) in these four paragraphs. Additionally, you are expected to attach simulated documentation that supports your memo to the superintendent. Some suggestions regarding the documentation can be found in the resource packet. The simulated memo, documentation, and activity reflection will be evaluated as one assignment using the identified rubric.
Reminder – your memo is limited to four paragraphs. You can also submit up to 2 pages of documentation. Do not forget your activity reflection.
Activity Reflection:
This submission requires an Activity Reflection. Answers to the following reflective questions are required in the Activity Reflection: (BE BRIEF- Use no less than 3 and no more than 5 sentences to answer each question in the reflection.)
* How does this response make sense?
* Describe how the response fits with the established criteria and models the elements found in the building blocks?
* What issues did the response address?
* In what other way could this issue be addressed and prove equally or more successful?
