EDLD 5339 Week 1 Stakeholder Communication Plan (W1LO2, W1LO3, W1LO4, CO1)

Directions for Stakeholder Communication Plan

  1. Read the article, Communication: The Process, Barriers, and Improving Effectiveness.

Lunenburg, F. C. (2010). Communication: The process, barriers, and improving effectiveness. Schooling, 1(1), p.1-11.

  1.  View the following Youtube videos:
  • Communicating Engagement Part 1: Trends Impacting K-12 Communications

School leaders discuss a school’s use of social media and how it addresses the community and parent communications needs.

  • Cultural Diversity – Tips for Communicating with Cultural Awareness

This video discusses cultural diversity and how to improve communication by fostering an awareness and understanding of cultural differences in communication behaviors.

  • Sharing Leadership with Families and the Community: What Parents Want Schools to Know includes these short (a  minute or less) video vignettes:

Welcoming Environment, Positive Feedback, Nurturing Environment, Less Jargon, How to Communicate

Parents share their thoughts on school communication and a welcoming school environment.

  1. Develop a communication plan that will support your leadership of the School/Family/Community Evaluation Project. You will be working with your campus mentor as well as faculty, family, community and business members as you establish the School/Family/Community (SFC) Partnership evaluation committee. Your communication plan will create a communication framework that will guide you as you serve as a leader of the SFC stakeholder group.

Consider the different forms of communication you will incorporate and how you will implement these communication forms as you lead the evaluation committee process such as 1)face to face, 2)email and 3)other electronic communication, 4)presentations, as well as 5)large group and small group communication.

  • Use the information from your review of the Youtube videos and the article, Communication: The Process, Barriers, and Improving Effectiveness to develop your plan for communication across the SCF evaluation process.
  • Consider how you will plan for meeting the different communication needs of your committee, such as language and culture, background knowledge, and committee members’ perceptions. Additionally, address how you will engage committee members in a collaborative communication process.
    • Plan how you will welcome your stakeholder members.
    • Use an agenda so stakeholders know what will be addressed in the meeting
    • Plan how you will communicate the purpose of the meeting being aware of the diversity of your stakeholders (see second bullet above).
    • Plan how you will explain the SFC Partnership Evaluation and the stakeholders’ role in this process.
    • Plan for how you will communicate next steps and information for the second stakeholder meeting in week 4 of this course.
