IT 460 Week 3 Assignment Project Risk Management

IT 460 Week 3 Assignment

Project Risk Management

Unit outcomes practiced in this assignment:

·         Examine risk management as a framework of analysis, methods, and terminology.

·         Understand project task breakdown.

·         Investigate scheduling software and other professional tools.

Course outcomes practiced in this assignment:

·         IT460-2: Implement the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) framework for project exploration.

·         GEL-6.05: Adapt research skills to discover and sort relevant sources to complete tasks.

Purpose

As a Systems Analyst, you know the value of research and the value of processes such as the Systems Development Life Cycle.  You also know that every project has risks and understanding the tasks that must be accomplished to reach your goals may also help you mitigate risks later. In this assignment, you will research various concepts related to project risk and demonstrate that you can organize a Work Breakdown Structure. These skills are important for implementing the SDLC framework.

This assignment combines research, application, and organization. It is to be prepared in a Word document in APA format; Microsoft Visio is also required for this assignment. Assistance with APA formatting and citation/referencing is available in the Writing Center.

Assignment Instructions and Requirements

Part 1 Research

Look for two sources online or in the online library that provides details about project risk management. Ensure that the sources you find are suitable for academic work. Then:

Subtopics: Choose three from this list:

·         Difference between risk analysis and risk assessment

·         Processes for IT risk mitigation

·         Risk avoidance, reduction, sharing, and retaining

·         Risk management standards

·         Documentation related to risk management

For each subtopic:

·         Provide a descriptive subheading in your own words.

·         Write at least 100 words.

·         Write in paragraph form (no lists).

·         Avoid simply listing processes or vocabulary; focus on explaining them.

·         Provide APA in-text citation to identify the source of your information.

At the conclusion of this part of the paper, write one more paragraph of at least 100 words in which you clearly address all of the following:

·         Where you searched (specific parts of the online library such as EBSCOhost and/or Google Scholar are preferred)

·         The search terms you used to find appropriate sources

·         Your criteria for author qualifications, currency (article dates), and any other evidenced weighed in your decision to approve the source for your paper
