Logical Business Models
Unit outcomes practiced in this assignment:
·        Demonstrate object-oriented analysis to describe an information system.
·        Produce object-relationship diagrams.
·        Discover a variety of diagrams relating to systems analysis.
Course outcome practiced in this assignment:
·        IT460-3: Develop logical models for a proposed system.Â
Purpose
You as the Systems Analyst may occasionally be hired to start a system "from scratch." In this assignment, you will practice logical organization of data flow and focus on a proposed new system.
Â
The assignment will test your critical thinking skills and let you practice diagramming. Research is not required. The final submission will be one Word document, but you will use Visio to produce the diagrams.
Assignment Instructions and Requirements
Scenario: Patty's ChocoCandy Store is located near a major city thoroughfare. The company purchases sweets from various retail vendors and sells both online and in the store. The CEO of Patty's has asked you to create a new computer system. You realize that various modeling methods will not only help you develop this system, but it will also make the concepts easier for the CEO to understand the complexities.Â
Part 1 DFD
Using Visio, create a Context Level Data Flow Diagram (DFD) to show the logical progression of data through the proposed system.
·        Use Gane and Sarson symbols as shown in your textbook reading.
·        Include Customer, Staff, Management, Vendors, and Payment System.
·        Make sure your work is completed without use of a ready-made template. Your instructor may provide additional guidance or examples to assist you with this assignment.
·        Remember that the Context Level DFD does not include any data stores, but will require some detail to explain all connections shown by arrows.
Copy and paste your diagram from Visio into a Word document. Provide a suitable subheading in your document to identify the diagram.
Part 2 Decision Table
Next, consider the situation and how you might use a Decision Table.
·        Include at least 3 conditions (yes/no or true/false rules) and at least 3 actions (X where appropriate).
·        Option 1: Develop this using a Word table placed in the same document as the DFDs.
·        Option 2: Develop this using Excel and then embed your table into the Word document that contains your DFDs. Do not take a screenshot or link to the Excel file; use only the embedding process. A quick online search can produce information on how to accomplish this task.
Review all instructions above and the rubric below before submitting to the assignment dropbox.
