IT 460 Week 6 Assignment
Object-Oriented Research and DiagrammingÂ
Unit outcomes practiced in this assignment:
·        Describe an information system using object-oriented analysis.
·        Describe relationships among objects and the concept of inheritance.
·        Develop object relationship diagrams.
·        Convey best practices in idea presentation for clients.
Course outcomes practiced in this assignment:
·        IT460-3: Apply object-oriented modeling tools and techniques in designing information systems.
·        GEL-1.02: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English
·        PC-3.2: Interact with others in a professional manner using appropriate communication and presentation skills.
Purpose
You as the Systems Analyst must frequently perform research and present your findings in a variety of ways. In this assignment, your client wants you to explain Object-Oriented analysis in a report, and then verbally summarize your findings at the next board meeting.Â
The assignment will test your ability to evaluate source material, synthesize information from multiple sources, use diagramming to visually represent ideas, and practice verbal communication. You will need Word, Visio, and a method to record an mp3 file. Suggestions regarding audio file creation are provided in this unit's introduction.
Research is required, and assistance for APA citation/referencing is available in the Writing Center.
Assignment Instructions and RequirementsÂ
Scenario: Last week you developed some diagrams for Patty's ChocoCandy Store and the CEO was impressed. She is a little perplexed, however, at the real meaning of "Object Oriented" analysis, so she has asked you to prepare a report for the board, and then prepare a very short verbal summary to introduce your report at the next meeting.Â
·        For the paper itself:
·        You will need a minimum of two (2) sources appropriate for college-level work.
·        For the diagramming:
·        You will need to find information showing how to develop UML class diagrams. These sources should be vetted for professional-level work, but are for your knowledge and understanding only. Do not include these sources in your reference list.
·        Parameters:
·        Use the given (required) Unit 6 template located in Course Resources-Course Documents.
·        Do not quote or copy from your sources; write your paper entirely in your own words (paraphrasing) and cite the sources of ideas.
·        All sources listed in the reference list must be cited somewhere in the body of the paper.
·        Use APA formatting and citation/referencing.
·        Content:
·        Cover Page
·        Add your name and the date in the template.
·        Introduction
·        Provide an overview / definition of Object-Oriented Analysis
·        Write a minimum of 80 words for this part and cite your source(s).
·        Objects, classes, relationships, attributes, and methods
·        Explain these five terms and how they are related.
·        Then provide an example of your own invention to illustrate the main ideas.
·        Write a minimum of 160 words for this part and cite your source(s).
·        Inheritance and subclasses
·        Explain these concepts.
·        Write a minimum of 80 words for this part and cite your source(s).
·        Conclusion
·        Explain how OOA is beneficial.
·        Write a minimum of 80 words for this part and cite your source(s).
·        References
·        Provide full APA-style reference entries for all sources used in the above report content.
·        Appendix A: Class Diagram
·        Use Visio and embed into your report document with a simple copy and paste.
·        Use UML diagramming techniques. (Hint: look for the "UML class" template in Visio).
·        Include the following four classes:
·        Train
·        Passengers
·        Cargo
·        Payment (assuming that passenger tickets and cargo charges are handled through the same system)
·        Each class shape must include:
·        Class name
·        Attributes
·        Operations/Methods
·        Also include:
·        Indication of multiplicity
·        Associational relationships (aggregation, composition, and/or dependency)
·        Appendix B: Audio Transcript
·        Write a summary of your report. Keep in mind the time parameters listed below.
·        Record an mp3 of your own voice presenting your summary.
·        The audio file must be at least 45 seconds in length, but no more than 90 seconds.
·        Ensure that you voice is well-paced, and the audio is clear from extraneous noise.
·        Note that both the written transcript (in the report document) and the audio mp3 file itself must be submitted in order to earn points for Appendix B.
Review all instructions above and the rubric below before submitting to the assignment dropbox.Â
Directions for Submitting Your AssignmentÂ
·        Name your Report document with the following convention: IT460-Unit6-LastName-FirstName (using your own name).
·        Name your audio (mp3) file with the following convention: IT460-Unit6-audio-LastName-FirstName (using your own name).
·        Make sure you read all instructions carefully and review the rubric before submitting both items to the Dropbox for Unit 6.
