This week’s assignment will require that you use your critical eye to consider whether SEL can be justified for use with all ages and all populations. The readings from the Handbook for SEL (Durlak, 2015) as well as the CASEL website have given you an opportunity to look at research and theoretical arguments for SEL and its impact on cultures, ability levels, students from a variety of economic backgrounds, and at-risk students.
Using your mind map of categories as the basis for your work, please formulate a narrative argument for the appropriate expectation of SEL in each element of diversity, equity, and inclusion (see example below). This argument should:
Example diverse category: English language literacy, information about this diversity element is organized hierarchically by degree of importance or impact, both positive and cautionary notions are addressed (ie, How can SEL impact individuals with ELL difficulties positively and in what ways is it limited?), citations are incorporated as well as your own professional commentary.
Length: 1 completed mind map and a 5-6 page summary, not including title and reference pages
References: Include a minimum of 5 scholarly resources.
Your narrative argument should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the week’s topic and provide new thoughts and insights. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy.
