QQR—Question, Quote, Reflection As an interactive assessment tool, the QQR is quite effective because it requires you to read the article carefully and completely. The main goal of the QQR is to get you to engage with the text, so you can effectively participate in class discussion, thereby making class time more enjoyable for us all. In completing a QQR, you will simply write three paragraphs: • Question—In the first paragraph, you will formulate a question based on what you read. This will not be a question that can be easily answered from facts in the article, nor will it be a question with a single-word answer. You want your question to spark discussion. Be sure, in your paragraph, to discuss what led to you formulating this question. • Quotation –In the second paragraph, you want to pull a compelling quotation from the reading. What statement in the article strikes you as interesting or thought provoking? Discuss why you chose this quote over any others. **This does not have to be the MAIN IDEA of the article** • Reflection—In the third paragraph, you want to reflect on what you read. What was the most challenging part of the article? What part did you find most useful? What is the central issue? What are the ideas, concepts, or underlying issues that may have led to the author writing the article? What connections can you make to your life? Hopefully, it will help you gain a better understanding of the course. You will do a QQR for most class readings, submitting one copy to Blackboard by the start of class and bringing a hard copy to class for discussion. I will not accept handwritten QQRs. Your submissions should include the MLA heading and be grammatically correct—for the most part. You may use first and second person. Each QQR is worth 5 points, so it isn’t a huge deal if you miss one or two. However, should you choose not to do the QQRs, you risk adversely affecting your grade. (I have even had at least one student fail the class because he didn’t do the QQRs.) Â
