Week 7 – Workplace Issues
This week we are covering ethical interactions between employers and employees in such areas as hiring, firing, wages, promotion, and participation in unions. Chapter 8 describes various situations such as being fired for displaying political stickers on your personal car, wearing your favorite sports team tie to work, and even for posting a comment to your own personal blog about work. We also cover the topic of “employment at will” which is either employee or employer is free to terminate the employment for just cause.
Your search topic for Week 7 is to find an interesting article on UNETHICAL TREATMENT IN THE WORKPLACE, EDUCATION OR HOUSING AREAS. It could be discrimination based on race, gender, age, or disabilities.
Here is a link to situation in the 1930’s to give you a better idea of what you are looking for. It tells about the Ford Motor Company and the May 26, 1937 “Battle of the Overpass” situation.
