BUS 309 Week 9 Discussion

Week 9 – Moral choices facing employees.

Chapter 10 deals with topics such as bribes, kickbacks, conflicting obligations, whistleblowing, self interest and moral obligations.   I highly recommend reading the chapter before you set out to search for this week’s article.  There is so much going on right now related to all of these topics.  One more thing to keep in mind is that in some countries, some of the situations we in the United States think are unethical are actually normal everyday work situations.

In the past few months, we all have heard the term “whistleblower” in the news regarding the current government officials in Washington D.C.  Everyday there are situations where an employee or customer “spills the beans” so to speak about unethical situations in their companies – whether it be sweeping things under the rug internally so the public has no concept of the wrong doing or a company knowingly producing a defective product and really doesn’t care to correct the situation.

Your discussion search for this week is to find an article related to bribes, kickbacks, or whistleblowing. You should be looking for companies such as Volkswagen, Amazon or even a company local to your area that made the news for one of the unethical situations you are searching for.
