University of Maine at Presque Isle Course Introduction to Creative Writing Milestone Outcome 3 Poetry rhyme, meter, rhythm, diction, and imagery
You have reached a Milestone Activity! Please be sure you complete the Personalized Lesson above before continuing.
Milestone Activities are important stops along your educational journey to check your progress towards mastering the competency and to get feedback and guidance from your tutorial faculty. Please note: You must complete this Milestone Activity before moving on in this competency.
Milestones ask questions that touch upon concepts covered in previous Learning Activities and provide you with the opportunity to see concepts from the perspective of experts in the field, your tutorial faculty. This Milestone Activity is not graded and will not impact your score on your Final Assessment; however, your response must score a “Proficient” or “Exemplary” on each criterion, listed in the rubric below, in order to access and submit your Final Assessment.
To complete this Milestone Activity, read the question below and then provide your response in the comment box. In order to score a “Proficient” or “Exemplary”, your response must be thoughtful and substantive, and you must reference or cite content from this competency. Your tutorial faculty will use the rubric to determine if your post shows the depth of thought required to successfully complete this Milestone. Let’s get started!
Note that this Milestone Activity has 5 seperate submission pieces--your instructor will not review this Activity until all 5 pieces are submitted. For this assignment, you will create a mini-portfolio of your villanelle and sonnet form poems. The mini-portfolio will consist of:
1. An artist’s statement: A few sentences that describe your artistic goals with this collection of form poems
2. A draft of your villanelle with verifiable peer-commentary on it (from a workshop or tutor)
3. A final, revised, polished version of your villanelle as a Google Doc link, be sure that it is shared so that your instructor can comment.
4. A draft of your sonnet (choose either Shakespearian or Petrarchan and identify which you chose) with verifiable peer-commentary on it
5. A final, revised, polished version of your sonnet as a Google Doc link, be sure that it is shared so that your instructor can comment.
Villanelle: Use the formula for creating a Villanelle. You will then need to workshop that villanelle with either a writing tutor or another online workshop process. Be sure to upload an image or a document with verifiable commentary from another writer that offers you constructive feedback. Include that version alongside a polished and revised version of the final villanelle. So you will submit a minimum of two drafts of the villanelle--one with notes from a peer-reviewer and another which demonstrates your revisions based on that feedback.
Sonnet: Use the formula for creating either a Shakespearian or Petrarchan Sonnet. You will then need to workshop that sonnet with either a writing tutor or another online workshop process. Be sure to upload an image or a document with verifiable commentary from another writer that offers you constructive feedback. Include that version alongside a polished and revised version of the final sonnet. So you will submit a minimum of two drafts of the sonnet--one with notes from a peer-reviewer and another which demonstrates your revisions based on that feedback.
