SOC 400 Week 7 Discussion Acculturation and Assimilation

The textbook defines acculturation as "the process by which one group (generally a minority or immigrant group) learns the culture of another group (generally the dominant group)" (1). Similarly, assimilation describes a process by which different cultural groups in one place begin to blend together.

Please respond to the following:

·        What are two pros and two cons of acculturation and assimilation, from the perspective of a minority or an immigrant group? What positive effects can those processes have on a group? How can they negatively impact the group?

Be sure to respond to at least one of your classmates' posts.
