SOC 400 Week 10 Activity Reflective Journal 4

Overview

There are four Reflective Journal activities in the course, in Weeks 1, 3, 6, and 10. In each journal, you will use your writing, critical thinking, self-awareness, and social awareness skills to reflect on your experiences and opinions. As you read the course resources, participate in discussions, and work on your assignments, the journals may reflect shifts in your opinions or your approaches to issues and topics.

Preparation

For this final Reflective Journal, revisit one or more of your previous discussion responses or journal entries to measure how your feelings about a topic have changed or evolved as a result of your work throughout the course.

Requirements

Write a one-page journal entry (approximately 250 words) in which you:

  1. Describe some element of your coursework that prompted you to re-examine your opinion on or view of a topic related to class, ethnicity, gender, or race.
    • Examples of coursework elements include readings, assignment research, and discussion exchanges.
    • A re-examination of a topic doesn't necessarily mean you've completely changed your mind. It could just mean that you discovered new information or came to a clearer understanding of other people's positions.
  2. Describe how you are more or less comfortable talking about a particular topic as a result of your readings or discussions.
    • For example, you may be less comfortable because you've identified a gap in your understanding or because you feel a topic is too emotionally charged. Or you may be more comfortable because of what you've learned or have discovered that people are more open to discussion than you expected.
  3. Write with clarity, following mechanics and formatting requirements.

Your journal submission must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, your name, your professor's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required assignment length.
  • No sources are required for this journal unless you are quoting or paraphrasing from a source. If you do use sources, choose ones that are credible, relevant, and appropriate, and cite your sources correctly. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The library is your home for SWS assistance, including citations and formatting. Please refer to the Library site for all support. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
