GEN 101 Week 2 Journal Student Support Network Plan

Student Support Network Plan

[WLO: 1] [CLO: 3]

Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.

— Soren Kierkegaard

Beginning this week, you will have an opportunity to practice reflective thinking. Reflective thinking is an effective strategy that can enhance our personal growth and development. When things go well, reflection helps you identify behaviors or practices you can repeat to accomplish the same or similar results in the future. When things don’t go well, reflection helps you identify the source of the problem. Then you can consider what you can do differently to achieve a better result in the future.

Your reflective journal is due on Day 7 (Monday). Your grade will reflect both the quality and depth of your response. Refer to the Journal Grading Rubric under the Settings icon for guidance on how your journal will be evaluated.

Creating your own student support network is vital to your success at the University of Arizona Global Campus. Your support network may include the UAGC Student Support Center as well as people who can provide technical support, emotional support, and assignment support.

 | Prepare

Prior to working on this journal, do the following:

 | Reflect

Think about a stressful time in your life and how having (or not having) a support network affected the outcome of that situation. Creating your own student support network is vital to your success at the University of Arizona Global Campus. Your network should include people who can give you technical support, emotional support, or assignment support. Remember, life happens, and the best thing to do is to be prepared.

 | Write

  • Identify a stressful time in your life.
  • Explain two to three things that a person could do to overcome stressful situations in the scenario you selected.
  • Describe one way that part of a support network, like an instructor, student resource, or accountability partner, could help the person in the scenario. What resources could you recommend?
  • Discuss why having a support network is important for your academic success.
  • Discuss why having a plan in place is important for handling stressful situations.
  • Explain how you could use your social support network during times of stress or challenge as you progress through your classes at UAGC.
