ENG 122 Week 5 Discussion Reflecting on the Research and Writing Process

Reflecting on the Research and Writing Process [WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3]

Prepare

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review the chapters you have read in your course textbook. Then, consider your knowledge, skills, and abilities on Day 1 of this course and how your written communication skills have evolved with the addition of research skills over these 5 weeks.

Reflect

Combining the research and writing processes adds a crucial layer of development and support to your writing. Throughout this course, you have developed your research skills and applied them to locate outside resources, which deepens your understanding of important issues in your chosen career path or major field of study. Looking back at your posts from Week 1 and the steps of the research process covered by the research notebooks, reflect on how the skills you have learned have, in turn, shaped your readiness, understanding, and excitement for the road ahead.

Write

In 250 to 300 words, address the following points:

  • Describe what you have learned about the research process through assignments and activities in this class.
    • Which stages came easiest to you or were the most challenging? Were there any aspects that were surprising?
  • Explain the importance of research skills to your ongoing academic or professional work.
  • Analyze how writing about the issues in your career field has deepened an understanding of your professional trajectory.
  • Describe the top two skills you have developed during this course.
    • How might those skills be added to your resume or LinkedIn profile to benefit your future career or current profession?

Guided Response

Respond to at least two of your classmates. In each response, address the following:

  • Compare the skills they selected to focus on and their benefits for the future applications to the skills and benefits that you described in your post.
  • Point out a connection to your own post by referencing similar experiences, or program of study and career choice.

Your responses should each be about 100 words. Please read all your classmates’ posts, whether you are responding or not. You may respond to more than two classmates in this discussion.
