Example of the type of Thesis statement:
The outdated stereotypical notion of an “exotic Africa” was created by white European nations in order to justify various crimes against the African continent. For example, the exotification of the African peoples created a view of them as “others”, which allowed them to justify the atrocities that European armies committed such as the slavery, genocide, conquest, and colonization of African peoples and their lands. It pushed the idea that what the Europeans were doing was in the moral right, because it created the idea that the various nations and peoples of the African continent were less civilized or sub-human. This notion of an “exotic Africa” is no more than a construct, however, as these continents actually had many similarities. Two such similarities include the interconnected history of European and African nations, including trade relations (i.e. Spain and Morocco) and political interactions (i.e. Rome and Egypt), and the societal similarities between the nations of the two regions, including shared religions such as Christianity and Islam, social hierarchies, and governmental structures.
