"I loved the video by Karen Armstrong and Bill Moyers. I feel as though she has hit it right on the head of the nail. There is so much conflict in our society due to religion. Humans have constructed their idols and refuse to see the texts as anything but an absolute truth. When things are seen as absolute truth there is no longer any criticism or different interpretations of it. When people then begin to take their own interpretation of it it creates anger from one's ego. Karen does a really good job of pointing out that the anger and extremism not the religion itself. That these texts are made more for food for thought than that of the strict obedience to literalism people feel these days. One cannot have a functional society with such a lack of compassion we have these days. Compassion really is so important for society to function in a way that is not destructive and strictly seeing each other as the evil other. 

I never realized how people in Muslim countries feel about secularism and I really appreciate this video informing me on this topic as well. The media here teaches people to be afraid of this religion and how the cuture that surrounds it is "bad." I think everyone should have to watch this video to understand more on this topic. People are so keen to be afraid of it though and that fear breeds loathing. Having compassion for those that are different than ourselves could benefit the world so greatly and I hope to see more compassion in the future."
