Throughout this course you will be working on several aspects of soFware assurance and the security developmentlife cycle (SDLC), which will result in a complete soFware assurance guidelines document for a company of yourchoosing. SoFware assurance promotes standards, processes, tools, and techniques to produce soFware with areduced risk of security breaches.Each week, you will complete a part of the soFware assurance guidelines document. The ±nal draF is due at theend of the course.You will select an organiza²on, and apply your research to the analysis and development of soFware assurancepolicies and processes that would be appropriate for the organiza²on and the soFware applica²ons they producefor the government. Addi²onal informa²on and the deliverables for each Individual Project will be provided in theassignment descrip²on for the project. This is the course's Key Assignment, which you will make contribu²ons toeach week.Project SelecTon:The ±rst step will be to select an organiza²on as the target for your soFware assurance guidelines document. Thisorganiza²on will be used as the basis for each of the assignments throughout the course and should conform to thefollowing guidelines:Nontrivial:The selected organiza²on should be large enough to allow reasonable exercise of the soFwareassurance guidelines planning process.Domain Knowledge:You should be familiar enough with the organiza²on to allow you to focus on theplanning tasks without signi±cant ²me required for domain educa²on.Accessibility:You should have access to the people and other informa²on related to the organiza²on. Thiswill be an important part of the planning process.The selected organiza²on may already have soFware assurance guidelines in place and s²ll be used as the basis forthe projects in this course. The selected organiza²on must produce soFware applica²ons for the government, andis therefore subject to soFware assurance requirements. It is understood that such an organiza²on may not bereadily accessible. Therefore, you may feel free to iden²fy a hypothe²cal organiza²on that meets the requirements.Any necessary assump²ons may be made to ful±ll the requirements of organiza²on selec²on.Select an exis²ng organiza²on, or iden²fy a hypothe²cal organiza²on that ±ts the requirements listed above.Submit your proposal to your instructor before proceeding further with the assignments in the course. Approvalshould be sought within the ±rst several days of the course. Your instructor will tell you how to submit this proposaland what no²±ca²on will be given for project approval.Assignment:³or the assignments in this course, you will not be implemen²ng any soFware assurance policies or procedures.You will be developing a comprehensive soFware assurance guidelines document. Your ±rst task in this process willbe to select an organiza²on (or iden²fy a hypothe²cal organiza²on) to use as the basis of your projects. You willalso create the shell document for the ±nal project deliverable that you will be working on during each unit. As youproceed through each project phase, you will add content to each sec²on of the ±nal document to graduallycomplete the ±nal project deliverable.
