Week 8 written assignment

Week 8 written assignment - The assignment for week 8 sounds a bit intimidating at first but I added
some suggestions (in Italics) to make it easier to complete.
The assignment reads as follows:
Step 1: Write a concise analysis that deals with the information management problems in an
organization or business of your choosing.
This is an assignment you will want to keep in your personal files as well as submitting to your instructor.
Therefore, using the software predetermined by your instructor, create your proposal (of course this
refers to using a word processing program, like Word).
Basically, you are to provide a well thought-out response to each of the following questions:
• Item #1 - What kind of company are you working in? (You may create or use any kind of company;
however, your proposal must specifically address this company's needs. Therefore, – if you use your
company, you can talk to someone who is responsible for the IT needs of your company – they can
probably help you answer most of the questions that make up this assignment.)
• What are your company's Information System goals or needs? Think of your employees and customers.
What is it that you NEED your information system to do effectively and efficiently? For example, your
goals could include that your IS be:
1.
2.
3.
4. capable of providing safe and secure data,
providing safe transactions,
provide effective communications, and
enhance collaboration of employees and customers located worldwide. • What do you think the organizational chart for the company should look like? Be sure to include the IS
Operations Group. So, for the company that you chose, maybe you can use the organization chart of the
IT department. Also, see age 272 of your textbook – maybe you can use the diagram on that page as a
guide.
• How will you propose to organize the Information System's hardware and software infrastructure?
Here is a link to a pdf file that you might want to take a look at. Pages 129 – 131 might provide some
needed insight into the “parts” of the information infrastructure that need to be “organized”.
• How will you maintain the infrastructure? This one can be confusing. – refer to page 271 of the
textbook. What you are being asked to respond to is what safeguards are in place, or need to be put in
place, in the event of a system failure. Think data back-up systems. Think system safeguards. Think
routine maintenance programs to avoid or help limit system failures..
• What are the responsibilities of the IS managers? This is pretty straight forward…
• Should you outsource all or part of the responsibilities? Why or why not? What is your opinion on this
and be sure to defend it with Why or Why Not. • What are the user rights and responsibilities for your company's employees (within the IS department
and outside of the IS department) with regard to the IS department? Does your company or the
company you are writing about, have guidelines on usage of the Internet, computers and other
hardware? If so, the user rights and responsibilities are usually spelled out in those documents.
