Since 2005, Matthew Mendes has been a Vice President in charge of Community Outreach at JP Morgan Chase. He started as a teller in 2000 while attending Touro University at night. He obtained his degree from Touro in 2004. In order to pay for the rising tuition costs, he began doing “extra work” on the weekends. Beginning in December 2015, he began noticing the male employees “glaring” at him and making noises when he walked by. In May 2016, someone placed an obscene photograph on his desk. Matthew reported the incidents to his supervisor who suggested that he was imagining things. The next day, as he sat in the lunchroom he heard two male employees singing. When he turned around, they stopped. Matthew comes to you for advice, specifically he wants to know what his options are, including whether he can sue JP Morgan Chase. What advice do you give him? Why?
