Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) emphasizes zero breakdowns and zero defects. It supports the philosophy of JIT to eliminate waste. TPM organizes the maintenance process so that it becomes a continuous learning process for everyone evolved in it. For example, TPM is a set of techniques to manage breakdown maintenance, preventive maintenance, and predictive maintenance. The goal of TPM is to create an environment in which people and equipment can deliver exactly what the customer requires without waste.

Your assignment is to identify a process that was improved using TPM. First, write a detailed summary of the process and any bottlenecks that may have existed prior to the TPM improvement. What techniques were employed to improve the process? Did your peers “buy into” the TPM process? Identify production times before and after the improvement. Discuss the customers’ response to receiving the product on time and without waste.
