An experiment was done to determine which genes are likely involved in resistance to a new antibiotic. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria were grown on normal media (control group) and on media that had the new antibiotic (experimental group). A DNA microarray experiment was performed in which the control samples had a green fluorescent label and the experimental samples had a red fluorescent label. The results from the DNA Microarray are below.
(Each number 1-25 refers to a unique gene)Â the results of the microarray were:Â Â 2 & 24 REDÂ Â 4,17,22 GREENÂ Â 1,13,14,21 NO COLORÂ All other numbers were YELLOWÂ question: how might this information be used to design new antibiotics that are less vulnerable to resistance??
