Flue gas desulfurization systems may be classified as regenerative and non-regenerative with the former producing SO2 as amore concentrated gas and the latter generally converting it to a throw away product. The non-regenerative systems essentially neutralize the so2 and place it in a stable form, which can be disposed of without any adverse effects to the environment. Most regenerative systems absorb the so2 in a slurry and then regenerate it as a more concentrated stream which can be used for making either liquid so2, sulfuric acid, or sulfur. These products can, in turn, be used to make additional byproducts.in addition; the wellman lord process considered as regenerative process and wet dry and semi-dry process categorized as non-regenerative process. Plant involves the disposal of both the slurry separating agent and so2 in a non-toxic form. The non- regenerative process is expensive than regenerative process and more abundant regent and the main disadvantage of non-regenrative process is scaling and plugging of the column internals.
