Write a well organized 2-3 paragraph response paper (essay) on the documentary “Wasteland" by Vic Muniz. You may write about whatever you'd like to discuss about the film.

 

Some things to consider are: Did the lives of the pickers involved change after their experience in working with Artist Vic Muniz? Is an artist responsible for the well being of the subjects of his/her work (ie. emotional/psychological impact), working conditions of the pickers (health, safety). Issues of race, class, gender, in the workplace, w/i the artworld (ie. gallery, etc.), what is the philosophy behind 99 is not 100. Did your perspective on how artists work or the materials they use change in any way? These are just jump off points for you to consider when writing. 

 

 

How did the film impact you (reflect on your social location within society)? Rethink your role in how much you consume and throw away? 

 

 

Your essay must include your own personal opinions/thought and impacts the film had on you. What things did it make you think about in your own life, etc. IT MUST BE MORE THAN JUST A SUMMARY OF THE FILM.
