Part of Hobbes rationale was his looking to the past to find a society that was brutish and nasty - one that was in a virtual state of warfare, and therefore we need moral rules to live by to maintain social order - and that was what we have today. But when you look at everything going on in the world - genocide, ISIS, and the multitude of wars and conflicts around the globe - doesn't that seem like a brutish and nasty society with little moral or social order? How do you think Hobbes would view our world today?
