The new tents, which the CED calls the “Super X-EIJIJ l,“ are really,r just glori tied pup tents {kind of
like a Snoopy tent}; the}.r have two equilateral triangular ends and a rectangular base. My job is to figure
out what dimensions the tent should have in order to make the cost as low as possible. lhlormalljyr this
wouldn‘t be a problem—I’d just make the tent reallyr small—but the boss wants the tent to sleep 2-3
people and have inside volume of 2.8 cubic meters. To complicate matters, our development people
have decided to make me ‘tep‘ of the tent out of a light-weight, water-resistant material, but the}r
decided to make the floor and ends out of amore durable material so it doesn’t tear as easily. As it‘ that
weren‘t enough, the materials cost different amounts! The water-resistant material costs $2.25 per
square meter, and the floor material costs $1.75 per square meter. I don’t even know where to begin! This is where I need yotn' help. I really,r want to do a good job on this project so that the CED will write me a good recommendation letter for a job. Can you help me find out how long, wide, and tall
shouldlmake thetenttobe inordertorninimizetheoost‘? Andiflfind thebestdirnensionsto minimize cost, will the tent still be practical for 2-3 people to sleep in?
