3: TLC ANALYSIS or THE PURIFIED REACTION PRODUCT 1. Using a microspatula, place a few crystals of your purified reaction product in a 3-in test
tube. Add 5-10 drops of ethyl acetate, and swirl until the solid dissolves. Prepare a
second solution containing 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene in a simiiar manner. Prepare a third
solution by adding one drop of aniline, and 1 mL of ethyl acetate, to a 3-inch test tube. 2. Analyze all three solutions on the same TLC plate using 50% hexanes/50% diethyl ether as
the TLC solvent Visualize the TLC plate using a UV lamp. Outline (with a pencil) any spots
that you see on the plate. Sketch the appearance of the TLC plate in your lab notebook and determine the Rr values for each compound.
