Stakeholder support is necessary for a successful change proposal project implementation. Consider your internal stakeholders, such as the facility, unit or health care setting where the change process is situated, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group outside the health care setting.

An individual that is effected or alters an outcome of a project is a stakeholder. Shaping projects ensuring there are available resources while contributing to the achievement of the project while facilitating change to support the project is the role of a stakeholder. The internal stakeholder is accountable and held responsible for planning projects and are involved in the activities (Nordmeyer, 2016). For the authors PICO, the internal stakeholder is the facility where bedside reporting is being performed and will continue to be done for patient safety and quality of care.

An external stakeholder participates as well in the project however are limited to only consultants rather than members of the team that are directly involved in the planning of the project (Nordmeyer, 2016). A group that is outside the healthcare setting could be the family of the patient’s. Without the ongoing support of the patient’s family in bedside reporting, the patient will less likely be accountable for this plan of care and may choose not to cooperative and assist. Incorporating the patient’s family in the patients plan of care not only helps the patient, it gives the patient resources if help is needed.

Why is their support necessary to the success of your project, and how you will go about securing that support?

The author will secure family support by incorporating them in the patient’s plan of care. It is often that the patient will have family that sits at the bedside and by asking the patient some questions then turning to the family and asking some, the conversation becomes a part of the master plan, especially when discussing discharge and discharge needs. Patients tend to do better with the support of their family and most families want to help, especially if the patient is older. The family wants to make sure their loved one is cared for and with family helping, they know they can trust them and that it genuine towards the patient. Bedside report not only is report delivered between two nurses about the patients plan of care, it is also the incorporation of the patient and their family in the patients care now and after discharge. Sometimes, patient’s need to know that we as nurses care for them but so do their loved ones, such as family and we are all there to see them succeed.
