1.) How can organizations and vendors change their certification programs to test for skills
as well as core knowledge? What issues might this introduce?
They should give the employees better training. Providing better training would allow their
employees to gain better problem-solving skills when issues arise in the company. Most
likely there will be issues regarding the certification program, and it will cost time and
money.
2.) What are the primary arguments against certification, and how can certifying bodies
change their programs to overcome these shortcomings?
Their primary argument was that IT knowledge that was testable didn’t translate into
acceptable IT work. The SAP built alliances with 900 universities to train and certify
resources. Even though not everyone is asking for answers to the IT progression,
certifying professionals are already answering and adapting their programs for the IT
progression.
3.) What are the benefits of certification? How might certification programs need to change
in the future to better serve the needs of the IT community?
Benefits of certifications are:
1. Employers like to use certifications as a requirement for entry-level positions and jobs that
require a specific skill.
2. Employers also use certifications as a way to train employees in the company.
The certification programs need to change to IT certification to the progressiveness of IT.
Sun Microsystem also requires programming or design assignments in its certification. Even
though some have changed, such as Sun Microsystem, there is still many that need to adapt
to current IT progressiveness.
