Healthcare is one of the biggest adopters of virtual reality which encompasses surgery simulation, phobia treatment, robotic surgery and skills training.

One of the advantages of this technology is that it allows healthcare professionals to learn new skills as well as refreshing existing ones in a safe environment. Plus it allows this without causing any danger to the patients.

Mobile virtual reality devices like Google Cardboard, Gear VR, and VR One are changing the way hospitals and health care providers are training doctors, nurses, and medical personnel.(Gaudiosi,2015)

I think the use of Virtual Reality educational tools is the wave of the future!! I know at our facility we have a "sim lab" which is used for simulation of "real life" for things like running mock codes, and MRT (medical response team) calls- we actually have just acquired several VR headsets for training purposes- its all very "star treky" if you ask me but it is amazing how real these simulations are. They offer us the opportunity to really get that hands on experience with out having to jepordize any real patients care- it gives us thechance to really embrace our "questioning attitude and understand everything we do. The idea of using VR to educate and simulate potential post operative nausea and vomitting scenarios is a great idea but unfortunately our VR educational bank is not quite large enough to reach the capacity we would need it to reach - however we could most certainly use our online educational platform to rollout an inservice regarding PONV treatments and ways to avoid it. I think that would be an effective way to reach all staff as they are required to complete their online inservices each month.
