The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a not-for-profit organization.  They were founded in 1990, and “began accrediting managed care organizations in 1991”, (Sayles, 2014).  To have the seal of the NCQA means that that organization first needs to pass their reviews, and meet their performance standards.   These reviews and standards apply to programs like Health Plan Accreditation, Disease Management, Case Management Accreditation, and Wellness and Health Promotion.  The also cover Provider Organizations such as Accountable Care Organizations, and Health Plan Contracting Organizations like Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organizations.  (NCQA, 2016)

NCQA has a huge role in health care documentation by working closely with federal health care policy makers in how their mission and values connect to the new health care reform law. Some of the programs that the NCQA have help health care providers improve patient quality and get better quality out of the health care system.  In their Delivery Systems Reform, some of the programs they have available is Patient-Centered Medical Homes Evidence, Patient-Centered Specialty Practice Program, Accreditation for Accountable Care Organizations, Integrating Care for People with Medicare and Medicaid, etc. (NCQA, 2016)
