Merck & Marketing of VIOXX

÷       Merck is a pharmaceutical company that produced Vioxx (a pain reliever for arthritis)

÷       Decided to withdraw Vioxx from the market on 9/30/2004

÷       Found the customers who use Vioxx have a higher risk of heart attacks and did not tell consumers

÷       Evidence was presented to show that Merck scientists considered potential heart problems w/ Vioxx in early 1997

÷       In 2002 decided to add evidence of increased incidence of heart attacks (the language on the label emphasized the uncertainty of the cause)
