professional sociology

To analyze an empirically researched sociology article published in any professional sociology journal that relates to an area of inequality. In addition, students will demonstrate research skills in analyzing the components of sociological research.

Directions:

Select an article from databases in the college’s libraries that analyzes an issue of social inequality related to gender, race, social class, sexuality etc. For example, you can use The American Journal of Sociology, Psychology Journal, or another professional journal that is peer reviewed. This means that the article has been reviewed for scholarly contents by other professionals in the field. The databases allow you to select peer reviewed articles. I am attaching an example of the types of journal articles appropriate for this discussion.

Your completed assessment should be 2-3 paragraphs and should include the following components:

Topic - What was the topic of the research study?

Rationale - Why did the researchers choose this topic to study? Typically, there is a statement regarding what the researcher intends to add to the body of literature by conducting this study.

Review of the Literature: What was in the literature review that the researchers cited? Be sure to examine an article that contains a literature review section.

Hypothesis/ Research Question - What was the stated hypothesis or Research Questions?

Methodology - How did the researchers conduct the study? Was this a qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods study?

Findings - What were the results - hypothesis supported? Research question answered?

Implications- What relevance does the study have for the field of Sociology?

Opinions - discuss your thoughts/opinions regarding the study?
