Effective Advocacy requires good organizational planning. Having to define the goal, objectives and strategic approach, it is important to be systematic in mapping out the actions to be taken to achieve results including timelines and milestones. Workplace advocacy strategies have the capability of empowering the nurses to provide quality care to the patients. However, these strategies are naturally complementary and focus on strengthening the voice of nursing and ensuring nurses get involved in work place decisions affects the patient care.

Therefore, the shared governance model is a way where nurses can express and manage their practice to create changes in the work environment. This principle provides nurses with the opportunity to participate in their workplace decision and policy making. This empowers nurses to create projects that will have a positive impact on changes within the health care setting. This model can create a partnership between staff members and their managers where they collectively work towards one goal and that is providing quality patient care. This model allows nurses to make a difference using evidence-based practice, impacting practice and standards. At my current workplace, we have monthly meeting with representatives from various departments on the basis to evaluate the quality of patient care delivered. This provides staff with the opportunity to advocate on behalf of fellow nurses and their patient, ways to implement changes that will benefit patients.
