Question description
Â
In this synopsis please include answers to the following questions:
1. What is the opera about?
2. What is the primary message(s) of the work?
3. Do you agree or disagree with the message that the composer conveys? Why?
Read the libretti from the opera. Listen to musical selections from the opera. First answer these questions, prior to attempting this assignment. At the time the opera was being written what was going on in the world politically, socially? What background information do you have about the composer and the librettist? You need to do this research in order to form your 'substantiated' option. Choose musical examples in order to clarify your statement. Address the musical style and tonal structure of the operas. Like many works of art, they are not created in a vacuum. Many times, art does reflect life.
