Question 1: So many changes occurred in the arts in the 20th century. Some of these changes were gradual (evolutionary) whilst others were startlingly sudden (revolutionary). Do you believe the evolutionary or the revolutionary approach to the arts is likely to have the most lasting effect? Why?

Question 2: People sometimes think of musical theatre as “entertainment” and an opera as a “cultural experience.” Do you think one of these forms is more representative than the other of American society’s culture? To put it another way, what does the world “culture” mean to you?

Question 3: Does one of the styles of music discussed in Part VI of your text (the 20th century) appeal to you more than the others? Cite your reasons for this preference.
