1. Watch the video streamed http://www.films.com/dealerpreview/8514
2. Try to make connections to the material you read about in the textbook. (Please see attachment “Chapter 4.pdf”)
Writing Assignment (750-1000 words without counting references):
Paragraph 1: In a well‐developed paragraph, provide a fully summary of ONE of the five sections from
Paragraph 2: In the second well‐developed paragraph, make two connections to the textbook. These
connections can include content examples or facts presented by both the video and your textbook. In
other words, your instructor is looking for you to apply the material from the textbook. How do the
textbook and the video connect, and/or how do connections between the two help explain a concept or
reinforce something you already knew?
Paragraph 3: Compose the third paragraph, introducing two examples from modern‐day television that
support the information from the chosen segment. These can be programs that you watch personally,
shows you let your children watch, or two of your favorite shows that at one time competed for a prime
time slot. This is up to you, and you have a little freedom to express your ideas here.
Paragraph 4: In the last paragraph, assert an opinion about the topic of your chosen segment and
support your opinion using two examples from the video. This provides some practice in expository
writing, which you will use in later assignments.
This particular paper is NOT an essay, so you do not need to have a central argument (or thesis), and the
paragraphs do not need cohesion among them. Each paragraph will be its own separate entity. Feel
free to ask questions.
Reference: proper citation for any supporting material that you paraphrase, summarize, or quote from the textbook or any other outside sources.
